The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is an anticipated shopping event fashion enthusiasts look forward to every year to get amazing deals on new arrivals from top brands. This sale rolls around every July/August with items fit for the fall season. You can find details about this year’s sale on Nordstrom’s site here.
The sale can be a bit of a frenzy. I found it a bit overwhelming when I first participated in it. After learning more about it, I was inspired to put together this mini guide for Nordstrom Anniversary Sale newbies. Check back on this blog for my sale preview wishlist and 2020 haul.
1) Products sell out fast
Veteran Nordstrom Anniversary Sale shoppers know to swoop in on those savings. Items tend to go out of stock and may not be restocked once they’re gone. Get ahead of the game by checking out Nordstrom’s sale preview, which is available a few weeks before the sale begins. During this time, you can start adding items to your wishlist online, so you can quickly check out once the sale is open to you.
Another great way to get a head start is to become a Nordstrom card holder. If you are already a regular Nordstrom shopper, I recommend signing up to build your Nordy Club status by earning points. The higher the status you achieve as a cardmember, the earlier the access you will be granted to the sale.

If you are a current card holder, you can check your Nordy Club status through your account online. Just sign into your Nordstrom account, click on your profile and you will find “The Nordy Club” on the navigation bar on the left.
2) Check out influencers
One way to get a deeper preview of the sale is to take a look at fashion bloggers and YouTubers covering the sale. They give viewers a sneak peek by taking them through their early access shopping experiences and sharing their hauls. Their early reviews can help you decide if certain purchases are worth it.
My favorite is Miss Louie. She does an amazing job of walking through clothing and accessories in detail and by category. She lists everything out on her blog, and her videos are super informative.

Please share any of your favorite influencers with me down in the comments. I love binge watching these haul videos 🙂
3) Get introduced to new brands
If you have been dreaming of owning a pair of Frame Jeans or been dying to try La Mer skincare, but held off because it’s out of your budget, this may be the time you can finally afford them. Score!
When I was first introduced to the sale, I was happy to learn that Nordstrom carries brands with a wide range of sizing. I look forward to shopping brands with petite sizing (I am 5’3”), like Topshop, Halogen and Wit & Wisdom. Even though Nordstrom offers alteration and tailoring services, it’s the best feeling when I find clothes that actually fit my short body!
I also discovered some of my favorite brands through previous anniversary sale purchases, such as Madewell, BB Dakota, Zella, Le Labo, Leith, and Barefoot Dreams to name a few. I couldn’t pass up certain deals on these “new-to me” brands, and have been a fan ever since. Nordstrom is so great with returns, so it’s not a problem if you’re ever unhappy with a purchase.
4) Stock up on your favorites and Fall staples
This is the time to stock up on your favorite basic tees, undergarments, makeup sets, denim jeans and more while they are on sale. It also gives you a chance to update your wardrobe with new Fall staples.
5) A second chance
As mentioned in point #1, items sell out fast. The good news is that sometimes brands release the same or similar products the following year, so don’t be bummed if you miss out. A few items I see year to year are Vince Camuto booties, Barefoot Dreams cardigan sweaters, and over-the-knee boots.
BONUS TIP
Avoid holiday stress. Since so many great items will be on sale, it could be a good time to pick up a few items for family and friends long before the holiday season and save yourself the headache!
I hope these tips help better prepare you for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Good luck out there and happy shopping!
